Here is another wonderfully brilliant red flower that was in bloom in the Shenandoah Valley during the time we were there. It is Lobelia Cardinalis and it is very obviously in the lobelia family.  It grows along river bottoms and stream beds because it needs the occasional flooding of these arteries to clear places for it to grow….so anything we do to affect the wetland or low area of  streams and rivers will impact this natural treasure.
