Ocean Isle Sunrise

I guess we were intrigued by the shifting of the earth while at the beach. The tides and the open sky make one more aware of the little planet and it’s functions in the solar system. I remember a time when the lower end of this barrier island was all dunes and sea oats. On one of those earlier days, my brother and I were at the end of the island when a storm with intense lightening came up suddenly. We were very nervous about not having a place to take cover along the shore and ran the length of the deserted beach to reach our car. Now it is covered with high rise condos and more are under constructionl There won’t be one inch of natural beach front left of this once beautiful place. The motel, from which the photo was taken, was a three story complex on the beach front. The little knolls that are what is left of the high rolling dunes now dot the sand and they will soon be worn down by foot traffic and vehicles on the beach.
