Chicory grows all over the State of North Carolina. I found this small plant still blooming while at the beach. It is a European plant and escaped to our roadsides and fields along with queen Anns Lace, another European plant. they are often found blooming and growing together and make an agreeable picture. chicory was brought here as a coffee substitute in colonial times and Queen Anne’s Lace, which is also called Wild Carrot, was also brought here during Colonial times, probably as an herb with several uses, one of which, is birth control.
