Poem by George Gray

One more leaf and bird

One more leaf come falling down

Attract attention from this clown

Small and yellow, gasp of green

How did you come on the scene?

None of my trees have such leaves

Far away the mother grieves

Look—perched on the wire, a dove

Two shades of gray, aloof, above

Surveys, shrugs, then spreads and flies

Tail feathers black and white as lies

For every bird, more leaves than stars

For every man, as many birds

Soaring, falling, fighting wars

One leaf, one dove, find these words
